Root command execution via traversal and argument injection
Published May 16, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Authentication bypass in affected ClearPass Policy Manager releases allows remote attackers to execute commands as root through the WebUI. Apache proxy path normalization accepts a ..; traversal into the unauthenticated Audit posture-service route, which passes clientIp input into a sudo nmap command without parameter validation. No credentials or user interaction are required; injected nmap options can write files and execute Lua scripts as root, yielding complete appliance compromise.
