Cluster-admin escalation via unstripped Connection tokens
Published Feb 22, 2022 · Updated Apr 22, 2025
Improper authentication in Project Capsule Capsule Proxy before 0.2.1 allows remote authenticated users to gain cluster-admin access. The impersonation handler forwards untrusted Connection tokens without stripping the named Impersonate-User or Impersonate-Group header, so the upstream API server omits tenant impersonation. A valid Capsule Proxy authentication mechanism is required; successful requests execute with the proxy service account's cluster-admin role.
