CVE-2022-23648Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Host file disclosure via unconstrained image volume paths

Published Mar 3, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Path traversal in containerd CRI before 1.4.13, 1.5.0 through 1.5.9, and 1.6.0 allows remote attackers to read Linux host files. WithVolumes joins an image-supplied VOLUME path to the mounted image root without confining traversal components, allowing the resolved source to escape that root. Exploitation requires a crafted image to be launched through the CRI implementation on Linux; exposed host content is copied into the container read-only.
