CVE-2022-23638Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Cross-site scripting via unsanitized CDATA nodes

Published Feb 14, 2022 · Updated Apr 23, 2025

Cross-site scripting in Daryll Doyle SVG Sanitizer before 0.15.0 allows remote attackers to execute script through crafted inline SVG. Sanitizer::startClean traverses only DOM elements and therefore leaves CDATA-wrapped HTML elements in the sanitized output. Execution requires the sanitized SVG to be embedded and served as text/html; standalone image/svg+xml rendering is unaffected.
