CVE-2022-23613

Root code execution via sesman size underflow

Published Feb 7, 2022 · Updated Apr 23, 2025

Integer underflow in xrdp 0.9.17 through 0.9.18 allows unauthenticated attackers to execute root code via locally accessible sesman. The sesman_data_in parser accepts a message size below the eight-byte header, subtracts that size during processing, and allows an integer underflow to drive a heap overflow. Reachability requires local access to the sesman service, which listens on localhost by default but can be exposed remotely by configuration; successful exploitation compromises the host as root.
