Authenticated file disclosure via unrestricted RST directives
Published Feb 1, 2022 · Updated May 5, 2025
Path traversal in NimForum before 2.2.0 allows remote authenticated users to read host files through crafted forum content. The Nim RST parser processes unrestricted include directives and code directives with a file option, resolves their supplied paths, and embeds the referenced file into rendered output. Any forum account can reach the flaw through a new post, thread, or silent preview request, exposing files readable by the service account, including forum.json secrets.
