Application hang via malformed RAR control flow
Published Feb 1, 2022 · Updated May 5, 2025
Infinite-loop denial of service in Junrar before 7.5.3 allows attackers to hang applications that extract a crafted RAR archive. Malformed archive headers are not fully rejected before extraction, allowing crafted control flow to remain indefinitely in RarVM's unbounded instruction loop. Exposure requires a consuming application to accept attacker-supplied archives and invoke Junrar parsing or extraction; the affected process then consumes CPU without completing.
