CVE-2022-2347

Code execution via oversized USB DFU transfer

Published Sep 23, 2022 · Updated May 12, 2026

Heap-based buffer overflow in U-Boot 2022.07 and earlier allows physically proximate attackers to read or overwrite heap data via USB DFU. In drivers/usb/gadget/f_dfu.c, handle_dnload returns the packet's wLength without bounding it to the 4096-byte req->buf, while dfu_handle also accepts a direction inconsistent with the command. Exploitation requires physical USB access and a device operating in DFU mode with DFU-over-USB support; memory disclosure, corruption, and code execution can result.
