CVE-2022-23450Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Pre-authentication SYSTEM code execution via BinaryFormatter deserialization

Published Apr 12, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Insecure deserialization in Siemens SIMATIC Energy Manager Basic and PRO before 7.3 Update 1 allows remote attackers to execute SYSTEM code. The BDataWindowsService on TCP port 4444 accepts an Off_UseBinaryFormatter protocol message and passes its contents to .NET BinaryFormatter without restricting object types. The message is processed before authentication, so a network-reachable attacker can trigger a gadget chain and take complete control of the server.
