Administrator code execution via weak upload validation
Published Feb 14, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Unrestricted file upload in BBS Forum 5.3 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to upload executable server-side files. The getType routine trusts detected file content when Content-Type is application/octet-stream but does not strictly validate the supplied filename suffix, permitting a JSP filename. Administrator access is required to reach the upload workflow, and a successful upload places a web shell on the server for code execution.
