Camera bricking via multicast deactivation command
Published Sep 11, 2023 · Updated Sep 26, 2024
Denial of service in Shenzhen Hichip Vision Technology IP Camera Firmware 11.4.8.1.1-20170926 allows remote attackers to brick cameras via multicast. The ipc_server service on UDP port 12129 treats a frame containing a modified Device-ID segment and valid XOR checksum as a deactivation command, then unlinks three firmware files. An attacker on the local network needs the camera's Device-ID; after reboot, video streaming and the configuration website remain unavailable.
