Authenticated code execution via unrestricted add-on JAR
Published Feb 4, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Remote code execution in JPress 4.2.0 allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary code by installing a crafted add-on JAR. The add-on installer accepts a JAR containing attacker-controlled Java in HelloWorldAddonController and loads it as an executable plug-in without constraining that code. Back-end access sufficient to install and activate an add-on is required; invoking the plug-in test action runs the embedded code with the JPress server process's privileges.
