Service interruption via ID/IDREF use-after-free
Published Feb 26, 2022 · Updated May 5, 2025
Use-after-free in libxml2 before 2.9.13 allows remote attackers to interrupt services via crafted XML containing ID and IDREF attributes. The valid.c validation path releases memory associated with ID and IDREF attributes but subsequently accesses that freed data. Exploitation requires an application to parse attacker-controlled XML through this validation path; impact is primarily service interruption, while confidentiality and integrity are not indicated.
