CVE-2022-23218Network attack vector

Code execution via unchecked pathname stack copy

Published Jan 14, 2022 · Updated May 5, 2025

Stack-based buffer overflow in GNU C Library through 2.34 allows attackers to crash a process or execute code via an overlong path. svcunix_create copies strlen(path)+1 bytes into the fixed-size sockaddr_un.sun_path field without first validating the pathname length. Reachability requires a calling application to pass attacker-controlled data to the deprecated function; code execution additionally requires a build without stack protection.
