CVE-2022-2313

Privilege escalation via installer DLL search path

Published Jul 27, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

DLL hijacking in the MA Smart Installer for Windows before 5.7.7 allows local users to execute code with elevated privileges. The installer loads a malicious DLL placed in its launch folder because its DLL search path is not constrained. Exploitation requires a low-privileged local user to place the DLL and induce execution of the Smart Installer, after which the library runs with the installer's higher privileges.
