CVE-2022-23104

Privilege escalation via writable DLL directory

Published Feb 24, 2022 · Updated Apr 16, 2025

Incorrect default permissions in SmartSights WIN-911 2021 R1 and R2 allow local users to escalate privileges through a malicious DLL. The affected installation grants a low-privilege group write access to Operator Workspace subfolders containing DLLs and executables, allowing attacker-controlled code to be placed where WIN-911 loads it. Exploitation requires low-privilege local access and user interaction, after which the code gains the permissions of the user running WIN-911.
