Guest kernel crash via failed grant revocation
Published Mar 10, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Denial of service in Linux netfront allows attackers controlling Xen PV backends to crash guest kernels via failed receive-path grant revocation. The receive path invokes BUG_ON when grant revocation fails, converting a backend-controlled error into a kernel crash instead of handling the failed return. The attack requires an attacker-controlled PV device backend and interrupts the targeted Linux guest.
