CVE-2022-23037

Guest memory disclosure or corruption via grant race

Published Mar 10, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Race condition in the Linux netfront PV driver allows local users controlling a PV backend to read or write guest memory pages. The driver checks whether a grant reference remains in use and then assumes revocation will succeed, allowing the backend to map the page between those operations. Exploitation requires a Linux guest using PV networking with a potentially malicious backend; retained access can disclose or corrupt data in reused pages.
