CVE-2022-23028Network attack vector

Remote connection interruption via SYN cookie miscalculation

Published Jan 25, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Incorrect calculation in F5 BIG-IP AFM affected releases allows remote attackers to interrupt certain TCP connections. The global SYN cookie protection path performs an incorrect calculation for undisclosed TCP connection types; F5 has not identified the calculation or packet fields involved. Exposure requires global TCP Half Open protection in a Device DoS or DoS profile on 16.x before 16.1.0, 15.1.x before 15.1.5, 14.1.x before 14.1.4.5, or any 13.1.x release; the result is failed connections, not a device crash.
