CVE-2022-23006

Information disclosure via binary buffer overrun

Published Sep 27, 2022 · Updated May 21, 2025

Stack-based buffer overflow in Western Digital network-storage firmware before 8.10.0-117 allows local access to read /etc/version via crafted input. An insecure binary operation overruns a stack buffer and can expose adjacent memory or alter execution state. Exploitation requires a chained issue, remote code execution, high privileges, and user interaction; reported consequences are information exposure, file modification, memory errors, or device crashes.
