CVE-2022-23005Network attack vector

Boot denial or rollback via unchecked UFS attribute

Published Jan 23, 2023 · Updated Apr 1, 2025

Improper UFS Boot handling in host Boot ROM implementations allows attackers to prevent startup or select outdated boot code. The ROM boot flow reads the Boot WKLU without validating bBootLunEn, so zero causes boot failure and an alternate value selects the other Boot LU. Exploitation requires elevated UFS-host permissions but no physical access; the result is an unbootable platform or integrity loss through boot-code rollback.
