CVE-2022-22992

Root command execution via unvalidated cloudAccess input

Published Jan 28, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Command injection in Western Digital NAS firmware before 5.19.117 allows network-adjacent attackers to execute commands as root. The cloudAccess endpoint passes a user-supplied string into a system call without proper validation or shell-argument escaping. Authentication is normally required, but the endpoint's authentication mechanism can be bypassed, exposing device data and control to attackers on the same network.
