CVE-2022-22988

Local privilege escalation via permissive filesystem traversal

Published Jan 13, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Incorrect permissions in Western Digital EdgeRover before 1.5.0-576 allow local users to read or modify application resources. The desktop app permits files to be loaded outside approved folders because its file and directory permissions do not confine traversal to those folders. Exploitation requires authenticated host access and can escape basic filesystem sandboxing, disclose sensitive information, or interrupt the service.
