CVE-2022-22950Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Service interruption via unbounded SpEL array allocation

Published Apr 1, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Resource exhaustion in Spring Framework before 5.2.20 and 5.3.0 through 5.3.16 allows attackers to interrupt service via crafted SpEL. ConstructorReference.createArray passes expression-supplied array dimensions to Java reflection without limiting total elements, allowing oversized multidimensional arrays to exhaust heap and CPU. An application is exposed only when it evaluates attacker-controlled SpEL; even a read-only SimpleEvaluationContext does not block array construction.
