CVE-2022-22936

Command execution via replayed job publishes

Published Mar 29, 2022 · Updated May 5, 2025

Capture-replay in VMware Salt 3002 before 3002.8, 3003 before 3003.4, and 3004 before 3004.1 allows attackers to rerun jobs. The minion accepts previously valid job publishes and file-server replies without rejecting replayed messages, so captured traffic remains actionable. Attackers with adjacent-network access and captured Salt traffic can rerun privileged jobs and, in some scenarios, gain root access on a minion.
