Minion shutdown via unsigned authentication replies
Published Mar 29, 2022 · Updated May 5, 2025
Improper authentication in Salt 3002 before 3002.8, 3003 before 3003.4, or 3004 before 3004.1 allows attackers to stop minions. Minions accept unsigned authentication replies, allowing an impersonated master to supply a reply that terminates the minion process. A network-positioned attacker must intercept the minion-master exchange; the documented consequence is minion shutdown, not data access or command execution.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
