CVE-2022-22934

Pillar data substitution via unsigned master responses

Published Mar 29, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Improper signature verification in Salt before 3002.8, 3003.4, and 3004.1 allows man-in-the-middle attackers to substitute pillar data. The master returns pillar data without binding the minion ID and request nonce into a response signed with the master's private key. An attacker positioned between master and minion can replace configuration data delivered to the minion, affecting its confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
