Remote code execution via FreeMarker template injection
Published Jan 20, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Server-side template injection in Mingsoft MCMS before 5.2.9 allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary code through template editing. The template editor stores attacker-controlled FreeMarker syntax in index.htm, and rendering that page invokes FreeMarker's Execute utility with an operating-system command. The published proof of concept requires access to the back-end template editor; successful exploitation runs commands with the MCMS server process's privileges.
