Unspecified impact via namespace URI allocation overflow
Published Jan 8, 2022 · Updated May 5, 2025
Integer overflow in Expat before 2.4.3 allows context-dependent attackers to cause unspecified impact while parsing XML namespace data. The addBinding function adds allocation headroom to a namespace URI length and multiplies the result by the XML character size without first rejecting either overflow. Reachability depends on a consuming application parsing attacker-controlled XML, and public records establish no concrete consequence beyond the arithmetic overflow.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
