CVE-2022-22805Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Pre-authentication code execution via TLS reassembly overflow

Published Mar 9, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Buffer overflow in SmartConnect UPS firmware allows remote attackers to execute code through a fragmented TLS record before authentication. The UPS ignores a nanoSSL error while reassembling fragmented records, keeps the connection open, and permits a heap overflow as chunks accumulate. SmartConnect-enabled SMT Series UPS 04.5 and earlier, SMC Series UPS 04.2 and earlier, SMTL Series UPS 02.9 and earlier, SCL Series UPS 02.5 or 03.1 and earlier by series ID, and SMX Series UPS 03.1 and earlier are exposed without authentication or user interaction.
