Unauthenticated post deletion via unchecked AJAX action
Published Aug 22, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Missing authorization in the WP Edit Menu WordPress plugin before 1.5.0 allows remote attackers to delete arbitrary posts or pages. The public filter_menu AJAX action accepts a val post ID and deletes the referenced post without checking a user capability or requiring authentication. The endpoint is network-reachable without a WordPress account, and the documented consequence is limited to unauthorized content deletion.
