Script execution via retained cross-document event handler
Published Dec 22, 2022 · Updated Apr 16, 2025
Sandbox bypass in Firefox before 97, Firefox ESR before 91.6, and Thunderbird before 91.6 allows remote attackers to execute iframe script. DOM adoption retains an event handler compiled under the parent document's rules when a node is moved into an iframe, so execution proceeds without allow-scripts. A user must load attacker-controlled content in a parent page that can insert a crafted node into a same-origin sandboxed frame; Thunderbird mail reading disables scripting, limiting exposure to browser-like contexts.
