Account actions via USSD-bearing tel links
Published Dec 22, 2022 · Updated Apr 16, 2025
Improper tel-link handling in Firefox for Android before 97 allows remote attackers to initiate USSD account actions after user dialing. GeckoSession.onLoadRequest forwarded tel URIs containing an asterisk and trailing USSD code to the Android dialer instead of rejecting the invalid scheme. Exploitation requires a user to click the crafted link and dial on a susceptible phone or carrier, where the code can perform account actions.
