Code execution via hijacked drag-and-drop file metadata

Code injection in Mozilla Firefox before 97, Firefox ESR before 91.6, and Thunderbird before 91.6 allows remote attackers to execute code. Web content can assign internal application/x-moz-file-promise-dest-filename and application/x-moz-file-promise-url DataTransfer types, replacing an image drop's filename and contents with an executable script. Exploitation requires a user to drag the attacker-controlled image to a local folder and then click the resulting file; Mozilla reproduced executable creation on Windows, while affected ESR builds did not reproduce it on macOS or Linux.
