Privileged navigation via unrestricted QR URLs
Published Dec 22, 2022 · Updated Apr 16, 2025
Improper input validation in Mozilla Firefox before 96 allows remote attackers to navigate Firefox for Android to non-web URLs via QR codes. The QR scanner accepts scanned URL schemes without restricting them to HTTP or HTTPS and can open privileged about: pages that websites normally cannot reach. Exploitation requires a user to scan an attacker-controlled QR code, after which navigation to internal or other non-web content can expose privileged browser functionality; other operating systems are unaffected.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
