Window spoofing via lost fullscreen state tracking

Published Dec 22, 2022 · Updated Apr 16, 2025

UI spoofing in Firefox for Windows before 96, Firefox ESR before 91.5, and Thunderbird before 91.5 lets remote attackers lock a popup fullscreen. After a popup invokes requestFullscreen and resizeBy or resizeTo, the Windows widget loses fullscreen-state tracking, so the Escape-key exit path returns early. A victim must interact with attacker-controlled web content; the popup remains fullscreen when Escape is pressed, enabling window spoofing, although switching or closing windows still exits.
