CVE-2022-2274Network attack vector

Remote code execution via RSA reduction length mismatch

Published Jul 1, 2022 · Updated Sep 17, 2024

Heap memory corruption in OpenSSL 3.0.4 allows remote attackers to execute code through 2048-bit RSA private-key operations. The AVX512IFMA path passes a modulus bit count as a BN_ULONG element count to bn_reduce_once_in_place, causing out-of-bounds heap access. Exposure requires an x86_64 CPU with AVX512IFMA and a server performing 2048-bit RSA private-key computations; the defect can also crash the process.
