CVE-2022-22704Network attack vector

Root command execution via omitted service user

Published Jan 6, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Privilege escalation in Alpine Linux zabbix-agent2 before 5.4.9-r1 allows remote attackers to execute agent actions as root. The Alpine OpenRC service omitted an explicit unprivileged account, while Agent 2 relied on systemd's User directive instead of dropping privileges itself. Exploitation requires access to an enabled agent action, and successful actions inherit root privileges rather than the intended zabbix account.
