CVE-2022-22683Network attack vector

Unauthenticated code execution via unchecked CGI buffer copy

Published Jul 28, 2022 · Updated Sep 16, 2024

Classic buffer overflow in Synology Media Server before 1.8.1-2876 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code through its CGI component. The CGI component copies attacker-controlled input into a buffer without checking its size, allowing the input to exceed the destination. No authentication or user interaction is required, but Synology has not disclosed the specific request or CGI handler that reaches the copy.
