Kernel code execution via AVEVideoEncoder buffer overflow
Published Mar 18, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Buffer overflow in Apple iOS, iPadOS, and tvOS before 15.4 allows local users to execute code with kernel privileges through AVEVideoEncoder. AVEVideoEncoder fails to enforce a buffer boundary while handling application-supplied data; Apple has not disclosed the affected routine or field. Exploitation requires a malicious application to reach the encoder flaw, after which attacker-controlled code runs with kernel privileges and can compromise the device.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
