Gatekeeper bypass via unquarantined ZIP application bundles
Published May 26, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Gatekeeper bypass in Apple macOS Catalina, Big Sur before 11.6.5, and Monterey before 12.3 lets attackers evade checks via a crafted ZIP. BOM parsing leaves the reconstructed application bundle without the quarantine attribute that triggers Gatekeeper, even though nested content is tagged. A user must download, extract, and launch the archive; unsigned or unnotarized code then runs without a Gatekeeper prompt.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
