Arbitrary code execution via ImageIO out-of-bounds read
Published Mar 18, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Out-of-bounds read in ImageIO in affected Apple operating systems before March 2022 updates allows attackers to execute arbitrary code via crafted images. ImageIO insufficiently validates image input before reading beyond an allocated buffer; Apple has not disclosed the affected parser or function. The issue affects iOS and iPadOS before 15.4, tvOS before 15.4, watchOS before 8.5, and macOS Monterey before 12.3; processing an image is required.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
