Restricted-file access via PackageKit permission validation
Published Mar 18, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
A permissions issue in Apple macOS before 12.2, 11.6.3, or Catalina Security Update 2022-001 allows local users to access restricted files. PackageKit's permission validation accepts an application request without enforcing restrictions on protected file paths. A malicious local application is required, and the documented consequence is unauthorized file confidentiality access rather than code execution or service interruption.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
