CVE-2022-22558

Arbitrary writes via improper SMM buffer verification

Published Apr 21, 2022 · Updated Sep 17, 2024

Improper SMM buffer verification in Dell PowerEdge BIOS allows local users with high privileges to write memory or interrupt service. Dell identifies the SMM communication buffer as the affected locus but does not disclose which handler or validation operation accepts the unsafe buffer. Exploitation requires local high privileges and high-complexity conditions; abuse enables arbitrary writes or an unspecified denial-of-service condition.
