CVE-2022-22496

Credential disclosure via offline dictionary attack

Published Jun 30, 2022 · Updated Sep 17, 2024

Information disclosure in IBM Spectrum Protect Server 8.1.0.000 through 8.1.14 allows remote attackers to recover passwords via adjacent network. During account establishment, SESSIONSECURITY=TRANSITIONAL stores authentication material in a form susceptible to offline dictionary cracking, allowing password recovery from captured data. The attacker needs adjacent network access but no prior privileges or user interaction; reported impact is credential confidentiality loss without integrity or availability effects.
