Stored XSS via CSRF settings update
Published Aug 1, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Cross-site request forgery in Featured Image from URL before 4.0.1 allows remote attackers to make an administrator store script-bearing settings. The settings form lacks a CSRF token check and accepts option values without validation, sanitization, or output escaping, so reopening the page executes stored JavaScript. Exploitation requires a logged-in administrator to submit the crafted request and revisit the settings page, exposing that administrator’s browser session to script execution.
