CVE-2022-22309

Unauthenticated FSP access via serial TTY

Published May 24, 2022 · Updated Sep 16, 2024

Authentication bypass in IBM Power System S922 firmware FW940 and FW950 allows physically proximate attackers to log in through serial TTY. The FSP accepts a serial-port/TTY login without authenticating the connecting party; IBM has not disclosed the precise faulty routine or validation path. Physical serial access is sufficient, while remote attackers can reach the same path when the port is attached to a serial-over-LAN device; success grants an unauthorized FSP session.
