CVE-2022-22225Network attack vector

Unauthenticated DoS via rpd route-flap race

Published Oct 18, 2022 · Updated May 12, 2025

A TOCTOU race in Juniper Networks Junos OS before 21.3R2 lets remote attackers with an established BGP session crash rpd via flapping BGP routes. The rpd daemon checks and uses contributing BGP multipath routes across unsynchronized route-flap events, creating a timing race that can terminate the process. Exploitation requires BGP multipath with a rapidly flapping contributing route, and crash timing is not directly controllable by the attacker, resulting in a denial of service.
