Unauthenticated rpd crash via BGP route race
Published Oct 18, 2022 · Updated May 12, 2025
TOCTOU race in rpd in Juniper Networks Junos OS and Junos OS Evolved allows remote attackers to crash rpd with a BGP flow route. rpd processes a redirect-IP extended community while the redirect next hop's reachability is flapping, allowing state to change between its check and use. Exploitation requires matching two internally timed events outside attacker control; route reflectors are exposed unless firewall installation is disabled.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=21.1-EVO <21.1R2-EVO
