PFE crash via malformed ESP packet
Published Oct 18, 2022 · Updated May 12, 2025
Improper index validation in the Junos OS PFE allows remote attackers to crash affected SRX and vSRX devices with malformed ESP packets. The PFE improperly validates an index, position, or offset while processing a malformed ESP packet for an established IPsec tunnel. Reachability requires PowerMode IPsec and a matching established tunnel; successful packets crash the PFE and interrupt forwarding.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
